Author: Robert Brown

Stuck behind a three-headed dog
Persephone cries in Hades bed
And Ceres mourns
And the leaves begin to fall.

In a small town,
With two stoplights
And lots of cows
And wranglers

A little girl plays alone,
On the city’s sidewalk
In a pile of ruby and gold

Autumn leaves,
And her mother
Is not sad, and the girl
Has no pomegranate.

You, a stranger, wave at the girl
And when she smiles back
You are surprised, because, clearly,
No one has ever told her about Hades
