If you could invite any person(s) and/or god(s) from any myth(s) to dinner, which would you choose, why, and what would be on the menu?

Leslie Fox lived in Central America during her formative years and in New Mexico since the mid-70s – before it was cool.
She writes novels, short stories, plays, screenplays and creative nonfiction. Dianne Schlies is a practicing artist and has taught studio art since 1986. She received her M.F.A. from SMU at Dallas, Texas in 1990. She has studied or worked with David Bates, Mel Bochner, Squeak Carnwath, Harmony Hammond, Ed Harris, Joyce Kozloff, Mary Ellen Mark, Duane Michals and Robert Rauschenberg. Schlies presently teaches Drawing and 2-D Design in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The Greeks intrigue me, but I don’t feel like I’d be able to relax with them around. They’ve got too many hidden agendas, and even the best of them seem a little too full of themselves. For an all around nice time I think I’d invite Lord Ganesha. I think he’d be a charming guest, and would be happy sitting on a blanket under our apple tree eating sweets and telling funny stories. I also think he’d appreciate convivial company more than food, and wouldn’t eat us out of house and home. The Greeks would bankrupt us. Lord Krishna would be a good addition, and would probably bring some Gopis to dance for us. I think K. would also be happy with something simple, as long as it were buttery.
That paints a lovely picture, Richard. I’m still pondering my picks, but I’m pretty sure the basic principle would be people I can get into interesting arguments. Jacob vs. Jesus? Dionysus vs. Buddha?

For an argument I’d go out for coffee (or maybe lunch, but absolutely not dinner) and invite two mythic Captains – Ahab and Kirk.
